GTA 6 has no ESRB or PEGI rating 83 days before launch
83 days before November 19, 2026, the public ESRB and PEGI databases hold no listing for Grand Theft Auto VI. The six official storefronts checked on August 28, 2026 all serve a provisional label and not a single content descriptor.

Grand Theft Auto VI has no final age rating anywhere, 83 days before it ships. A search for “Grand Theft Auto VI” in the ESRB’s public database on August 28, 2026 returns no listing for the game: the only hits are Vice City titles matched on the letters “VI”. PEGI’s public database returns 51 entries for “grand theft auto” that same day, none of them GTA 6.
Six official storefronts checked on August 28 serve a provisional label instead. The US PlayStation Store returns the code ESRB_RP17, labelled “ESRB Rating Pending Mature 17+”, while the French version of the same concept page returns PEGI_PROVISIONAL_18. The US Xbox Store shows “RATING PENDING LIKELY MATURE 17+”; the UK store shows “PEGI 18 PROVISIONAL”. The Rockstar Store puts an age gate in front of its product page and declares a minimum age of 18 in its page data.
The ESRB defines that label in its Ratings Guide:
Not yet assigned a final ESRB rating but anticipated to be rated Mature 17+. Appears only in advertising, marketing, and promotional materials related to a physical (e.g., boxed) video game that is expected to carry an ESRB rating, and should be replaced by a game’s rating once it has been assigned.
The gap that matters is not the missing letter, it is the table underneath it. On all six pages, the content descriptor array is empty, and so is the interactive elements array. Grand Theft Auto V carries seven ESRB descriptors, among them Strong Sexual Content and Mature Humor. Red Dead Redemption 2 carries six. PEGI’s March 15, 2022 sheet for GTA V carries four pictograms. GTA 6 carries none.
Those same product pages already advertise microtransactions, “in-app purchases” on Xbox in the United States. On the final ESRB listing for GTA V, In-Game Purchases is declared as an interactive element; the GTA 6 pages declare nothing at all. Users Interact, which both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 carry, has no reason to appear while no online mode has been announced.
One more oddity sits in the page code. The international Rockstar Store serves its badge image as a file named PEGI_17_Provisional.png, while the title and alt text on that same image read “PEGI 18 Provisional”. There is no PEGI 17 tier. Rockstar has not commented on the mismatch.
The practical deadline is November 12, 2026: the boxed version reaches shelves a week before the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launch, and the ESRB expects a boxed game to carry a final rating. Neither Rockstar, nor the ESRB, nor PEGI has given a date for the final classifications.
Rockstar has never published a statement or a page devoted to GTA 6’s adult content. Its August 26, 2026 text about the leaks does not mention it, and the 26 minutes and 48 seconds of the Extended Look went out on August 27 with no content warning attached. For anyone buying this game for a teenager before November 19, what can actually be verified today is a short list.
